Sleep offers complete relaxation to your body and mind. It is a state of unconsciousness where there is no activity or movement in mind. Mind doesn’t function when your body is in real sleep, if you get dreams it means you are not sleeping.

A sound sleep relaxes a tired person and relieves him from all the stress of the day. It is after having a sound sleep that he retrieves his vigor and energy for next day. Sleep is nature gift which is valid not only to humans but also to other living beings. It is truly said that early to bed and early to rise makes man healthy, wealthy and wise. Nevertheless, this practice is been rarely followed thanks to the fast paced life due to urbanization. A sleep of around 6 to 8 hours at any time during a day is not adequate for good health. Sleep for proper health, should be taken only at night, which is the time appointed by nature.

Hence these days’ problems of sleeplessness and insomnia have become so common amongst people due to change in work pattern, stress, anxiety and irregular life style, among others. No one is considering these problems with genuine concern. If attitude continues, it can lead to incurable and life threatening problems. You are destroying our health and body with your own hands.

Yoga:

Yoga and Pranayama are important to deal with the problems related to work, reduce negativity, tension and anxiety among several other problems. Regularly practicing Pranayama and other yoga forms treats sleeplessness and insomnia, and gives improved health. If everyone starts following yoga then probably the problems related to sleep will be eradicated from the whole world.

Here are the list of asanas to be followed and the time:

  • Bhastrika Pranayama for 3 to 5 minutes
  • Kapalbhati for 3 to 5 minutes
  • Anulom Vilom Pranayama for 5 to 10 minutes
  • Bhramari Pranayama for 5 to 10 times
  • Udgith Pranayama for 5 to 10 times, and
  • Ujjai Pranayama for 5 to 10 times

In addition to the given asanas, Shavasan and Yognidra are also beneficial for sound sleep. These practices cure all kinds of ailments. Also listening to soft music or mantras before sleeping also helps insomnia.
