Proper nutrition is the cornerstone of healthy skin and body. The foods that you consume regularly have a direct and often more profound impact on your skin than the plethora of skin creams in your bathroom or dressing table. So if you are looking to have smooth, glowing skin, read on.

The nutrients in your regular diet do a great deal for your skin, from preventing or reducing wrinkles, delaying the appearance of aging and probably even building greater resistance against the harmful effects of exposure to direct sunlight. Put simply, beautiful skin requires a proper, nutritious diet. The ‘recipe’ for smooth skin comprises sufficient minerals and vitamins, and plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Nutrition for not just your skin health

Of course, when you take care of your nutrition, the benefits are not limited to your skin- you can experience increased energy, improved sleep quality, lower cholesterol, greater mental prowess, and a host of other health benefits. So, include the following into your regular diet plan.

  • Tomatoes: – This typical red fruit is rich in lycopene, which prevents the skin from sunburn and other skin allergies. It also reduces fine lines and wrinkles from the skin. According to researchers, lycopene helps in lowering the risk of heart diseases. Therefore, tossing a tomato into your salad is quite useful.
  • Strawberries: – A rich source of Vitamin C, strawberries boost the production of collagen fibers that keeps the skin smooth and glowing. Dry skin, fine lines, and wrinkles are often the result of a deficiency of Vitamin C. Some theories abound that strawberries  lower the chances of cancer. Strawberries can be expensive in many parts of the world, but if you can, do make it a regular in your grocery shopping list!
  • Apples: – It is a natural source of collagen, which is the key for younger-looking and wrinkle-free skin. As they say “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.” It definitely does. An apple is a rich source of Vitamin A, B, and C. You may also try to make a face pack of an apple.
  • Soy: – The consumption of soy helps get more protein into your body which contributes to keeping the skin beautiful and healthy. Try including soy in your daily diet for better results.
  • Eggs:  These contains two popular anti-oxidants – Lutein and zeaxanthin that aid in protecting the skin from harmful UV rays, fine lines, wrinkles, and brown spots.  Eggs also help tighten the skin, soothe irritation of the skin, and add shine to hair.

Besides the above listed items, dark chocolate, almonds, nuts, olive oil, and whole grains are also worthwhile additions into your diet for healthy skin.
